Junior Primary children at the computers...
Report by Mrs. Tracy Bosch During the final weeks of 2000, the school purchased the Evalunet E-school program. At the start of the year, our teachers received training and the pupils started using it. The program is designed to help in the teaching of classroom subjects using the computers as opposed to computer skills. Our General Knowledge Quiz elimination rounds utilized the testing section in the program to help find our team. The school was offered, because we purchased the program, the opportunity to do a little fundraising by running the M-A-D project. This offered the parents a discount for purchasing the home version of Evalunet and offered the school a commission for running it. The project ran really well, with many satisfied customers, parents and pupils alike, and the school managed to raise R3000, which went towards the running of the computer centre. During the mid year break, seven of our computers were upgraded, as we continue to try keep up with changing technology. We put much needed blinds in to try and help with the morning sun. Our pupils and staff are trained in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point. The Grade Sevens used the centre to produce some wonderful newspapers. The Grade Fives used the computers to type out their recipes and the Grade Threes communicated with another school during their Information Technology section. The Grade Sixes produced their very own calendars for 2002, showing school holidays. All in all we are striving to have a computer literate school.
