Report by Mrs. Michelle Coombs
The idea
of this room is to let children
choose books that they will enjoy, to instil a love for reading, rather than
telling them what they must read. All J.P. learners have access to the Reading
Room, and they can take books up to four times a week. The books are graded from
level one to level ten and there are around 200 books per level, affording
children a wide selection to choose from. The emphasis is on fun, so the level
that the learner is reading is slightly lower than his ability and learners
won't find them too difficult. Initially parents read the book to their
children, but by June in Grade 1 they should be able to read the book to their
parents. A big thank you to all the monitors for their hard work and I wish all
learners continued reading enjoyment.
