NEWSLETTER - SUMMER 2004 No. 1
Dear Parents, A warm welcome back to the summer term which promises to be busy and exciting for children and staff alike. SATs week The children in Year 2 will be starting on their SATs tasks and tests on 4th May and will be continuing through the whole of the month. We aim to make it as stress free as possible for the children, we would really appreciate it if you kept the conversations about SATs with your children very low key at home. The Year 6 children will be assessed during the week of Monday 10th May to Friday 14th May and there will be no opportunity for them to redo any assessments should they be missed. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT ALL Y6 CHILDREN ARE PRESENT IN SCHOOL THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE WEEK. Great Ormond Street Challenge Well done to everyone for working so hard to collect money for this very special cause. Thanks to your generosity we raised £1,115. Play Day We have arranged for Helen McLellan to spend the day with us on Tuesday 27th April. Helen is an experienced specialist in children's co-operative play. She has worked with children and staff from many schools and has greatly improved the harmony and creativity amongst children in the playground. She will be working with the meal time supervisors, classroom assistants and some children from Year 6 and she will be training them to teach the rest of the school many playground games. At the end of the day there will be a whole school assembly where the children will find out about this initiative which is officially called "Play Buddy". Micro Marathon The children in year 6 today took part in an inter-schools micro marathon at Christ Church Primary School in Barnet. They all, including Miss Cronin, ran two miles and had a wonderful morning. Maisie made us all very proud by coming fourth in the whole field and second amongst all the girls.
Dinner Money Dinner money for this half term is £46.40. Letters regarding any credits or debits will be sent out on Monday 26th April. Fencing Mr Andy Wilkinson has been suffering from a very painful shoulder injury during this academic year. He is undergoing major surgery this week and I am sure you will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery. We look forward to seeing him back in September. Production We have set the dates for this year's production, it will take place on 14th, 15th and 16th July. Tickets will be on sale from 7th June from the school office. Lateness Unfortunately the problem of lateness is not improving despite lots of reminders. Our registers will be inspected some time this term and at the moment there are lots of families who will be receiving a letter from the Educational Welfare Officer should their punctuality not improve. Please make every effort to make sure your child arrives in the playground before 8.50am. Working Weekend You may remember this time last year we had a working party made up of staff, parents and children who came in during the weekend to take part in the refurbishment of the playground. It was an extremely productive project and all the people who were there had an enjoyable day and expressed enthusiasm to repeat the experience. We have planned the next working weekend for Saturday 8th May and the PTA and children will be telling you more about it in the very near future. Please keep this day free if you would like to come and help.
