Dear Parents, Welcome back to what will be a short half-term but a very busy one. MMR Injections These are taking place on Wednesday 2nd March 2005 in the school hall. All forms need to be returned to school to indicate whether or not you wish your child to have this injection. If you have misplaced or thrown the form away please send a note indicating whether or not your child has had this vaccination and/or whether you wish your child to receive it. These need to be in by no later than Monday 28th February 2005. Red Nose Day On Friday 11th March 2005 in aid of Comic Relief the school will be having a "Red Nose/Mad Hair Day". As in previous years children need to bring in £1 donation enabling them to wear a red nose and have mad hair! Children will need to wear school uniform as usual. Parent Consultations This term they will be held from Monday 14th March to Thursday 17th March. A consultation slip will be sent home with your child by the end of this week. Travelling Book Fayre This will be held from Monday 14th March to Wednesday 16th March, 3.35pm - 4.30pm to coincide with parent consultations. Sponsored Walk Due to the huge success of the sponsored walk in 2003 we would like to hold another one on the final day of term, Friday 18th March 2005. A sponsorship form and more information will follow nearer the time. All money raised will go towards the refurbishment of the junior playground. Easter Egg Swap As part of our Easter celebrations this year we are asking each child to bring in an Easter egg during the last week of term (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). Each egg will be numbered, and each child will be allocated a ticket. They will then be invited to hunt for the Easter egg that has their ticket on. Barnet Healthy Schools - Celebration Assembly During the last term our school was inspected by Barnet Healthy Schools Inspectors to see if we met the criteria for the Barnet Healthy Schools Environmental Award. The Inspectors were very impressed with the new playground markings, pond area and the proposed nature area next to the junior playground and with all the environmental science that has been taking place. We have qualified for the Environmental Award and we would like to hold a celebration assembly on Monday 11th April 2005 at 9.10am at which we will be presented with a plaque by the Barnet Healthy Schools Scheme . Any parents who were involved in the working weekends and therefore helped our school gain the award are warmly invited to attend the celebration assembly. If you wish to attend please could you let Mrs Walsh know by Friday 8th April 2005. Reports Your child will receive their annual school report on Friday 18th April 2005. The reports will be in a new format this year which is in line with Government regulations on reporting and assessment. Dinner Money Dinner money for this half term is £34.00. Cheques should be made payable to St. John's School. Maintenance Fund Please note that if you pay the maintenance fund in termly instalments, the next instalment is now due. The amount is £12 per term per child, cheques made payable to St. John's School. Please could this be sent into the office as soon as possible. Many thanks. Attendance Following a recent visit from the Education Welfare Officer it has been noted that attendance has improved from 94% to 97% over the past term which is pleasing to note. In line with the new regulations that were sent out we now have a late book located in the school office that parents/children who arrive late are required to sign before entering their class. Free Choice Friday We would like to extend our thanks to all the parents who have volunteered their time over the past two terms. If anyone else would like to get involved in running an activity or assisting someone else please give your details to Mrs Walsh. Behaviour before School It has been noted that children are bringing in toys/game boys to play at the beginning of the day before the school bell rings. This is not allowed and we would be grateful if you could support this rule. Duty teachers would also appreciate parents' help in discouraging their children from running - during this morning session the playground is very busy and we are fearful of accidents occuring with so many people in a confined space. Also as our bulbs are beginning to emerge in the grassed areas please ask your children not to walk on them when entering school. Tottenham Hotspur Football Coaching We have been fortunate enough to have been offered coaching sessions by Spurs football club over this past term. Children from years 2-6 have enjoyed one hour football sessions with these coaches each week. A friendly tournament will be held before the end of term. May I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continuing help and support. JANE MARTIN 23.2.05 PRINT HARD COPY | CLOSE WINDOW
