Red Nose Day 2005

Monday 28th February

Dear  Parents,

As you may already be aware Friday 11th March 2005 is Red Nose Day and schools up and down the country will be holding some fabulous fundraising events to support it.

This year the theme is Big Hair & Beyond and we will be asking the children to bring in a minimum of £1.00,  all of which will go towards the work of Comic Relief. In return we would like to invite the children to come to school  (THIS  IS  A  MUST!!) with CRAZY hair!! There will be prizes for the Craziest Hair in each class!! (School uniform must be worn)

The reason we're supporting Comic Relief is simple. Since they launched in 1985, they've raised  millions, which has gone to projects in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and countries across Africa.

Projects here in the UK, like the Leicestershire Mediation Service, work with pupils in schools to reduce bullying. Children work together to become 'playground buddies', learning to help and support other children.  Teachers are also trained to make sure school is safe and enjoyable for all children.

In Africa Comic Relief grants have been made to projects in 40 countries, making long-term changes to the profound poverty and injustice people experience there. Like nine-year-old Angela, who lives in Uganda, and whose family received help from Send a Cow - a Comic Relief project. They now have a cow, which not only provides the family with milk but also gives them enough to sell so they can buy food.

Between now and Red Nose Day 2005, the children will also be learning a little about some of the serious issues behind Comic Relief.

Please help us make this Red Nose Day  a) a lot of fun and b) a huge success. We think it will be great and hope you do too!

Yours faithfully,

Miss Brazier
