Notes:
Dear Parents,
CLASS TERMLY FORECAST
Welcome back to what I hope will be an exciting summer
term. We have four new children joining us for the morning
sessions: Raphael, Alice, Callum and Sophia. In the
afternoon we welcome three new faces: Kymberley, Christy
and Miles. I am sure that the new children will settle
in well and receive a warm welcome from their new friends.
Over the term the children will be covering the Early
Years curriculum through a range of activities both
inside and out. Some activities will be led and others
will be chosen by the children to work on individually
or with friends. A copy of our weekly plan is on the
window for you to look at. We also take account of the
children's interests and we are flexible in our planning.
The theme for our first half term is Homes and Gardens.
To introduce the topic we will be concentrating on the
children's own homes and discussing what they look like,
where they are and what they are made of. We will then
move onto other types of homes and think about where
different animals live. Hopefully the weather will be
nice during May and it will allow us to take our learning
out into the garden. We will be studying the plants
and trees around the school and doing some planting
of our own. The children will also take part in hunts
for small insects and observe how they move and what
they look like.
During the second half term our theme is Food. In particular
we will be looking at bread, cereals, fruit, vegetables,
fish, sweet foods and foods from different parts of
the world. The children will be taking part in lots
of cooking activities and learning about the importance
of food hygiene. We will be discussing the children's
favourite foods and finding out how important it is
to have a varied diet.
Throughout the term a strong emphasis will be on the
children's Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Many activities are planned to help the children develop
their attention and concentration and the children will
be encouraged to become more independent. Also, time
will be spent learning about the importance of working
together as a group and the need for agreed codes and
values. We will be talking about how others feel and
how we affect others by the way we behave.
Library Visits
We have started our visits to the school library. The
morning children will be going on a Thursday and the
afternoon children will be going on a Tuesday.
Book bags will be on sale in the nursery at £4.50.
Please bring in book bags on library days only as it
gets a bit congested in the cloakroom.
I would like to thank all the parents who help us on
the library days. Without you we would not be able to
do this and the children love taking a special schoolbook
home.
Parent Consultations
There will be a chance for parents of the children
who STARTED IN JANUARY to come and see us on 27th May
2004, more details closer to the time.
Picnic
Last year the morning and afternoon children and parents
joined together for a giant picnic in Swan Lane Park.
It was great fun and a good opportunity for everyone
to meet. We have set a date for Friday 16th July. Please
note that the nursery will be closed for the morning
session.
Open Day
The whole school, including the nursery will be open
for visitors on the afternoon of Friday 25th June. There
will be more information on this in a newsletter. Please
note that the nursery will be closed for the afternoon
session.
Activity Day
We are planning an activity day for the reception and
nursery children on Wednesday 7th July. This will involve
sports and outdoor activities. More details closer to
the time. There will no change to the usual nursery
sessions.
Reminders
Water fountain - our lovely water fountain often gets
blocked by children putting stones down the central
hole. Please talk to them about it and encourage them
to stop, as eventually the pump will be damaged.
Sensible clothing - many children are having difficulties
in using the toilets independently due to their clothing.
Please bear this in mind when you are dressing your
child for nursery; stiff buttons and belts are particularly
difficult.
Thank you for your support.
