Notes:
Welcome to year one. I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday and have returned fresh and ready to start the new school year.
Literacy takes place once a day in year one and this term we will be focusing on reading and writing simple cvc words, towards the end of the term we will extend this to longer more complex words. We will continue to follow the Hamilton Trust scheme of work and will use daily code breakers sessions to work on phonics.
Numeracy is also a daily lesson and during this term we will be covering ordering numbers, addition and subtraction, money problems, 2D shapes and measures including height and length.
Year one will be having PE on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For this term the children will be allowed to wear a polo shirt with a tie on PE days. Can you please ensure that your child has a complete PE kit: Polo shirt, blue shorts, white socks and plimsolls. One PE session per week will be held outdoors. During colder weather the children will need to wear a navy blue tracksuit and trainers. The tracksuits are available to buy from the school office.
Our two topics for this term are ‘Stories’, which is PSHE and Art based and will build on the children’s social awareness skills as well as providing a range of opportunities for different artistic activities, and ‘Ourselves’ which is a Science based topic which will be looking at parts of the body and the five senses.
Later on in the year Mrs Ikibiroglu will be in our classroom one morning per week carrying out design and technology project work with the class.
Reading books in year one are changed on a weekly basis and library books will be changed every Wednesday.
We would be grateful if a donation of £5.00 could be made by each child to class funds. This money is used to buy additional materials for art and craft and seasonal activities.
This is an exciting year for year one and I will do as much as I can to make the transition from Reception an easy one. We will be continuing with much of the good practice developed through the foundation stage, aiming to give the children a greater range of creative activities throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to come and see me after school.
